I amazed how NetSuite ecommerce customers dont set things up all the way. I know there is a lot of stuff to do when bulding an optimized Netsuite web site, but one of the things that can never be done wrong is the domain name pointing.
Most of the users when setting the domain name sin NetSuite, only use the http://www.mysite.com and not the http://mysite.com url that by the way you should be making a 301 redirect from the http://mysite.com to the http://www.mysite.com so Search Engines stick to one main domain. This is not relevant to Canonical Home Page issues which we will discuss later.
So, TIP: Make sure both urls with and without "www" have been set up in under Setup Domains.

Tip: Turn off personalized search at Google
Sunday night quick tip,
Add this parameter — &pws=0 — at the end of the query string/URL.
I am sure it will help you see exactly what Google is bringing up, and not using your past info to show other less relevant sites on the SERP's.

Why does Google give Analytics for free?
I am sure you have asked this question many times.
First things first. The main goal of Google is to organize the information of the web, and provide the most relevant results. To achieve this goal, they need to get rid of all the SPAM and useless websites out there, and prioritize the information of useful websites.
So, where does Google Analytics fits in this statement?
Bounce Rates.
Average Time Spent on Site.
Return Visits.
Google Analytics provides quality information no other method can provide them (except maybe the Google toolbar).
What do you think about sites with high bounce rates, short visit lengths and few return visits? USEFUL!!! SPAMMER!!
How to use this information? Don't install analytics until your site is up and running with the correct content.
Again. Hope it helps.
Tomorrow Ill write about "Why is Google giving away Feed Burner for Free?

Google brings Search to Small Businesses
A new great addition to Google Services.
With Google Custom Search Business Edition, you can create a search engine for your organization's websites in just minutes. It's Hosted by Google and has great features.
We will be trying it in our demo store, and I will post the results.
The great thing is that it feeds an XML so we can use it to display our own layouts, and not depend on cookie cutter Google layout changes.
Another great thing is that basic reporting where you can see search queries, plus you can publish the most popular ones to your web site automatically.
Could be good! Let's try it on our NetSuite Web Site.

NetSuite Site Search
I have a quick question. I was setting up some information on one of the "specification" item tabs that you created for us and noticed that the information in this tab was not searchable from the main store search feature. Anything in the netsuite short or long descriptions are searchable but the shipping and spec tabs you built are not.
Answer:
Unfortunately, the NetSuite Search Engine crawls or looks for info placed in the Store Display Name, Store Description, Detailed Description and Search keywords fields.
A solution to solve this problem if you have a lot of custom fields that need to searchable is to use external search providers. You will loose NetSuite Internal Search Summary if you have Advanced Analytics, but if you don't, its a no brainer.

Top 10 Ecommerce Mistakes
1. Weak Site Design
The first thing a potential customer sees is your websites design. All the elements of your web site's design - navigational structure, product presentation, copy and testimonials, proof of security - all mix together to give your visitors an overall impression of your business.
2. Site Usability Inadequate
Make sure the sites purpose is clear. This means explaining what your site is about. Help the customers find what they need. This involves making everything obvious, ensuring that every link and tool is accessible on every page. Your customers should be able to see your best material right away.
3. Obstacles to Shopping
There are several reasons that customers will leave your site looking for another in a heartbeat. If you confuse them with your navigational structure, ask to many personal questions, make it difficult to order, credit card fears, download time, and most of all not having a professional trustworthy website feel.
4. No Marketing Plan
There are millions of websites out there, with millions of potential customers. What will you do to drive sales to your site? You need to have a good marketing strategy. Which should include search engine optimization; pay per clicks, pop-under's, banner ads, and affiliates just to name a few.
5. Poor Customer Service
After doing this review of shopping carts, I can tell you how much customer service affects your business. There were hundreds of shopping carts to choose from to review. One of the major review criteria to separate the different carts was how well there customer service was. I thought this would be so obvious it would not be worth mentioning, but still company's have along way to go in satisfying this need.
6. Not Every Product can be Sold on the Internet
All products were not meant to be sold online. There are a lot of reasons why some products sell online and others don't. First, shipping costs for large products can became very expensive. Allot of time people shopping for shoes, and clothing prefer to try this items on before buying. Food items have the chance for spoiling, and fragile items are easily broken in shipping. You need to investigate a lot in the products you are selling before deciding to go online.
7. Failure to Prepare for Success
Many online businesses became successful in a very short period of time. Do you have a plan to deal with sudden massive orders of your products? Are you planning ahead for increased web traffic, which could cause bandwidth problems? There are many things to consider before selling online. What seems like a great deal for a shopping cart right now might not be able to handle your orders in a few months.
8. Slow Shipping
Working out true and fast shipping methods is key to keeping your cliental. What every your shipping standards are you need to keep them. If you say it will be there before Christmas, it needs to be there before Christmas. Not receiving there product on time will not only loss you customers by will scar you with a bad reputation.
9. Specialization
Not every business can become an amazon.com right at the first. You will need to specialize in a certain product to build up a good reputation. Reputation is a key ingredient to have any clout in the online world.
10. Security
Making your site as secure as possible is a must. We live in a day an age were electronic theft and sabotage is used more and more. Protecting your customer's credit card information is vital. Another thing that is over looked when it comes to security is protecting your client's information. Such as e-mail address, billing address, phone numbers, and anything else that is required of them. Identity theft can come from this information as easily as credit card theft.

Adwords Dynamic KeyWord Insertion Techniques
Dynamic keyword insertion, also known as DKI, allows advertisers to specify if they would like the search query to be shown in their ad text for keywords that match their ads. For example, if I want an ad to be displayed for a search on "search engine optimization" but a person types in SEO, the ad title will pick up the query and display "SEO" instead of search engine optimization. This helps increase an ad's click through rate.
Here are some advanced techniques on how the capitalization works with DKI:
- If you want the dynamic text to be all lower case, use {keyword:Default_text}.
- If you want the dynamic text to start with the first letter of the first word capitalized, use {Keyword:Default_text}.
- If you want the dynamic text to have the first letter in caps for each word, use {KeyWord:Default_text}.
- If you want the dynamic text to have the first word to all be in caps, use {KEYword:Default_text}.
- If you want the dynamic text to have the first word to all be in caps and the other words to start with the first letter in caps, use {KEYWord:Default_text}.
- If you want the dynamic text to all be in caps, use {KEYWORD:Default_text}

Google to offer Domain Registrations
Google is getting it's hands into everything. The latest is domain registration. They have been approved by ICANN to sell domain names for $10 a year with private registration included. The other registrars tend to charge for the private registration. Presently, they have been approved for .biz, .com, .info, .name, .net, .org and .pro domains.
That's pretty cool, but the drawback is, if your information does not show up in WhoIs as a result of going private, many businesses believe that you may have something to hide and will think twice about dealing with you.
The curious thing is that, as of now, it is not something that they are opening up to the public. Strange, indeed. Why be a registrar and not take registrations? Have any ideas? Things that make you go, "hmmmmm"
